Vincent Thomas, Artistic Director
Vincent Thomas is a founding member of Pellegrini Opera, having starred in its inaugural show, Don Giovanni, in 2004. Since then he has participated and/or led every aspect of the company, from performer to director. He has directed every production since 2010, and was appointed Artistic Director of Pellegrini Opera in 2014.
Vincent grew up in the world of opera, the only son of a stage director, Steven Thomas and opera diva, Maria Pellegrini. It was discovered at a very young age that he had an exceptional musical talent. He started singing and horn lessons at the age of 5, and by high school, was at ease playing any instrument from the brass family, and could harmonize vocally with ease, in any singing situation.
He pursued his musical studies at the Humber College of Performing Arts in Toronto, where he specialized in jazz voice, and trumpet. During his first few weeks there when the students were rigorously tested, the faculty discovered he had perfect pitch, and he was thus exempted from the entire ear training program.
Vincent is a natural leader, demonstrating this talent even as a teenager. During his time as an Air Cadet, he received a field promotion at CFB Borden from Corporal to Sergeant Major at the of age 17. As a result, he led the Borden Cadet Camp Band Division for the duration of the summer, leading over 150 cadets.
After college, Vincent played with numerous bands of many different musical styles. He was the lead singer for Primal Therapy, a Jazz-rock band, and Hammerthumb, a Progressive rock band. He also played trumpet with Anthony V and Juan Miguel, both merengue/salsa bands, and BlueJackets Required, the Humber Funk band. Though no longer pursuing that musical avenue, it gave him invaluable experience as a performer and musical collaborator.
During that time, he also took a job at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, as one of the Royal trumpeters. However, his sense of adventure led him to pursue becoming a knight there, and ultimately the Champion of the tournament for 7 years. It was there that discovered a new love for acting. Since then, he has appeared in several films, television shows, commercials, as well as live theatre and opera. Vincent has performed and worked with many opera and theatre companies, most notably Theatre Collingwood, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Opera In Concert, Banff Centre for the Arts, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, and Opera York.
Vincent brings an incredible wealth of knowledge to any production in which he takes part. Pellegrini Opera has greatly expanded the scope of their productions under his leadership. He has improved the quality of productions, demonstrated an adventurous creativity to the art form and provided increasing employment and volunteer opportunities for local artistic, logistical, and celebrity talent.
